Health

Menopause is the medical term for the end of a woman's menstrual periods. A period when ovaries have no longer produces estrogen and consequently the estrogen level drop, what leads to the end of monthly menstrual periods. Estrogen is the most active hormone in the reproductive period.

The menopause timing is defined genetically. Each woman has her own. The first menstruation is genetically defined when girls reach around 10 up to 16 years old. Likewise, signs for the last period varies within 45 and 47 years old. And the end of the process or the entry in menopause properly speaking is around 48 and 51 years old.

People used to believe a few years ago that a premature puberty and the first menstruation pauses influence in the last menstruation period. Nowadays, modern medicine stands that the age of the first menstruation doesn’t establish menopause occurrence, after all. This is also not influenced by the number of gestations, breast-feeding and age of last pregnancy. The unique confirmed through scientific studies association, reveals that over-weight women can have their last menstruation a little later. Smoker women or those who never had children or have a depression history, are inclined to get to menopause around two or three years earlier then others

Also the mother’s menopause age can be a referential to evaluate the daughter’s menopause age. But, it’s not a rule of thumb. Life style and habits are factors that influences on the genetic inheritance-determining menopause age.

According to the World Health Organization, it’s just possible to be sure about being in the menopause period after 12 months since the last menstruation.. This information is based on clinical observation. The lack of menstruation during one year indicates that the female reproductive phase is over definitely.

There are cases of women who got pregnant in this period of 12 months, even without menstruation. Keep up with contraceptive methods during this transition time until a year after last menstruation is essential for those unwilling to get surprised.
